Large Scale Landscaping

Preparing for the gravel driveway

Our biggest project of 2023, 4 weeks of work in Egham, Surrey.

New gravel driveway laid with foundation

This project had it all. Fencing, York stone crazy paving, unexpected tree stumps that had to be removed, moving sheds, a whole new driveway and entrance with hardwood gates, the lot!

Well over 100 tonnes of materials were moved in and out of the property for this job, all moved by ourselves and a couple of small machines.

Excavation of driveway and garden
Making room for the new driveway access & gate

Due to planning restrictions with tree roots, we couldn't excavate the driveway as we normally would, and no heavy machinery could be used. So, we scraped away the bare minimum of earth with our lightweight digger, to level the area without damaging any roots.

We then laid ground control fabric to separate the earth from the hardcore, and used X Grid plastic tiles to form the load bearing surface of the driveway.

These were then filled with gravel, and all was retained with reclaimed Granite setts. We removed a part of the hedge to create a new driveway entrance that was much easier to use and safer than the existing entrance, as the property was situated on a sharp corner.

We inlaid granite setts for the drive entrance, and fitted new gate posts with reclaimed hardwood gates.

Relaid lawn & shed

Crazy paved path

The York stone crazy paving used throughout the project was also all reclaimed, and while time-consuming to lay, the rustic look is just what the customers wanted.

We also used Everedge to create a shaped edge between the lawn and borders of the garden, and installed a gravel garden seating area with stepping stones.
